Summer solstice sees a spruced up Park

Jun 22, 2025 | Projects

Yesterday – longest, and possibly the hottest – day of the summer saw the Friends of Heaton Moor Park out in force to tidy up some key areas of the park. Weather was warm and sultry but the group managed to find quite enough to do in the more shady nooks of the park.

  • The very popular Willow Tunnel saw some errant branches re-tied, broken branches cleared and the rockery around the entrance put into order.
  • The Star Bed, sporting a variety of perennials got shunt of weeds and dead leaves.
  • The football field received a bit more topsoil and grass seed.
  • Loads of overhanding branches and vines as well as those pesky suckers at the bottom of tree trunks were cut back.

All this work makes the flowers easier to spot and enjoy, as seen in the pictures on this page.

Many many thanks to all the volunteers who came along today.
